  • Moving ADM to New Computer - Situation 1

    Back to "Move ADM Files"

    Situation 1:

    • I have a new computer, and…
    • I want to transfer the entered data from the old computer to the new one, and…
    • ADM has not been installed on the new computer, and…
    • ADM is working correctly on the old computer, and…
    • I may or may not have an upgrade to ADM, a new module or a new multi-user license to install.
    1. Copy the entire ADM structure from the old computer to the new one.
When copying to a single PC (Step 3), do not copy the ADM structure inside another folder that has a name of more than 8 characters in length or contains a space.

    2. If the ADM structure was copied to a server or a computer with a shared folder:
      a. Where ADM is installed, grant each user Create, Read, Write, Modify, and Execute privileges (these privileges are known by different names depending on the operating system of the computer where ADM is located). For Windows Server 2003, you may also be required to set Share permissions.
      b. For each user who will be accessing ADM, create a drive mapping to the folder where you copied the ADM structure. For example, if you copied the ADM structure to \\server\share\ADM, you can choose to map drive J: to \\server\share. The ADM folder will then be located using J:\ADM.
      c. Run ADM\Workstation Install\Setup.exe at each workstation accessing ADM. The Workstation setup (not ADM) requires local administrative rights to run.
      d. Go to Step 4.

    3. If the ADM structure was copied to a single PC:
      a. Run ADM\Workstation Install\Setup.exe. The Workstation setup (not ADM) requires local administrative rights to run.
      b. If the computer is running Windows XP and multiple users will be accessing ADM, complete the steps below.
      i. Open Control Panel > Folder Options and choose the View tab > Advanced Settings. Remove the check mark from "Use simple file sharing (recommended)". Click OK.
ii. In Windows Explorer or My Computer, right click on the ADM folder. Select Properties. Choose the Security tab and select the user name or group of the ADM users. Click Allow Full Control. Repeat this step for each user or group. Click OK.
iii. Repeat Step 3.b.i but now check the box for "Use simple file sharing". Click OK.

    4. If you have purchased an upgrade to ADM, a new module, or a multi-user license:
      a. Install it from the new CD, using the serial number(s) on the new CD. Choose the mapped drive or the location where ADM was copied.
      b. If the ADM structure was copied to a server or a computer with a shared folder, repeat the workstation install in Step 2.c.
      c. After installation has completed, run ADM to check that it is working properly and that data from the old computer are present.

    5. To maintain licensing compliance, uninstall ADM from the old computer.
