The
DOF is designed to score observations over 10-minute periods in classrooms
and group activities. It has 96 problem items scored on 4-step rating
scales, and provides for scoring on-task behavior at one-minute intervals.
The observer writes a narrative description of the child's behavior
as it occurs over a 10-minute period and then rates problems observed
during that period. The DOF profiles enable users to compare an observed
target child with two observed control children for the following scales:
On-task, Internalizing, Externalizing, and Total Problem Scales, averaged
for up to six observation sessions. The computer-scored profiles also
include six syndrome scales derived from observations of 212 problem
children aged 5-14. (The six syndrome scales are not scorable on hand-scored
profiles.) The DOF was normed on 287 non-referred children observed
as classroom controls for problem children. For DOF reliability and
validity data, see the Manual for the ASEBA School-Age Forms &
Profiles. (Burlington, VT: University of Vermont, Research Center
for Children, Youth, and Families, 2001.) The Manual also reports
mean DOF scale scores for referred and control children.
